Park Chicago. My bank account still remembers the day I had to write that big check. I will not mention the name of this manufacturing company but it’s one of the top brands on the market. Solid wood windows with aluminum clad exterior surface – beautiful! My honest opinion – don’t ever install aluminum clad wood windows. The problem was lingering under the cladding for years I believe; otherwise they wouldn’t fall apart on me like they did. What happened is that the aluminum cladding was leaking water along the glass pane and over the years the lower wood sections in 10 windows and one slider of the patio doors completely rotted out. I wasn’t aware of that until black spots started appearing under the varnish surface of the interior wood… unfortunately it was already too late and beyond any repair. Anyways, I skip the lawsuit part and quick forward to the last week when I got my replacements installed, all vinyl!. I was going to go with the people who play their window ads allover tv (I’m sure you’ve seen it) but I bumped into my buddy from the next block who was doing a lot of exterior remodeling on his property, mostly brickwork. He was very happy with Edmar, a contractor who did his entire front elevation. It turns out they have a division dedicated to installation of all types of replacement windows and sliding doors. I was already set on one particular manufacturer which happened to be their supplier as well. They gave me much better price for the same windows I was already quoted on. There was one thing that that they spotted during the removal of my old patio sliders and I’m extremely grateful for that. The old window sills where leaking (I got two windows located above the sliding doors) and one section of the header was completely rotten and sagging already… basically supported by that door. I’m just glad they showed me this problem and were able to replace damaged header. I’m very happy with your work Edmar Contractors, thanks for your help!
